Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 Opinion

firefox3-1logo I was curious to try out the new Firefox beta release, not because of significant new features, but rather because Firefox has been needing to catch up to some of the other browsers out there. My trusty Firefox 3.04 was seeming sluggish compared to all the newer and faster browsers out there, the newer version of Opera as well as the new release of the final version of Google Chrome. The rendering simply wasn’t up to par.

As I stated in another post, I couldn’t bear to switch to Opera because of the lack of useful plugins that add functionality. After all who needs a aquarium? (Okay, so maybe I did find it entertaining.) It seems to me that the Javascript rendering engine Tracemonkey for Firefox’s beta is very much up to par. Loading timesĀ  have significantly increased for me and I can say that so far I’m slightly impressed. I may no be overly wowed, but definitely glad that Firefox is working hard and caught up with the rest of it’s opponents in the Browser War. I might just go buy me some Mozilla stock.

As for users who want to go and try it out for themselves, I say go on right ahead. It doesn’t overwrite your existing Firefox installation and the installation is the same. It also uses the same bookmarks folder and doesn’t delete anything.

Poem: Lost Boy

Gone are the days that I remember,
The sky looks down,
Tears in her eyes,
She sheds them for him

Feelings lost,
But memories are there,
No one to hold close to,
Pain she doesn’t know how to bear

Tears trickle down
Like rain from the sky
Unending hymns,
There’s no more lullabies.

The boy she knew is no longer there,
He’s lost to the world,
Maybe he doesn’t care

He’s no longer who he used to be,
The boy who sung love songs
On his acoustic guitar
Maybe they weren’t for her
But his heart was there

Top.Fan-Fix.com - Grand Opening!

I am pleased to announce that one of my sites is now open! I feel slightly accomplished, considering I’ve been really sick this weekend with a terrible cold. (I think the excessive amounts of tissues I went through proves it.)

If anyone is interested in fanfiction, by all means please do stop on over at my new site and check it out:
Top.Fan-Fix.com

It’s a digg-like site run on Pligg, meant for fans/readers of fanfiction (of all fandoms, pairings/ships!) to submit and vote on fanfics that they like. There are no real restrictions and authors are encouraged to submit the links to their own fanfiction and then stick a top.fan-fix.com link back so people can vote on their fic.

Thankful

The other day, I went to go take a shower and of course the hot water wasn’t working in the shower for some reason. Just another everyday thing to add to my list; hot water. I wonder to myself how many people must be dying for fresh water to drink, yet us/we bath in gallons of it everyday, pretty scary to think huh?

Just a little food for thought, while we eat our processed food.

5 Tips for Travelling on the ‘Chinatown Bus’

These are my personal first hand tips on getting onto one of the Chinatown Buses (Fung Wah, Lucky Star) that run from both Chinatown (NYC), NY to Boston, MA, and vice versa; Boston MA to Chinatown (NYC), NY. I take the bus often to visit family, and find that these would be somethings that I wish someone told me before I took the bus, not that I have yet to sincerely regret taking it.

Note: This is not a comparison of the two bus companies because I personally find it hard is hard to compare the two, because the experiences on either can vary on many different factors such as the people, the time, or the day of the week. I will be talking about the best ’suggested’ times to travel on these buses, or when to be prepared for that unexpected delay.

Tips for Hosting WC3 Custom Games on BNET

Just a few tips that I think Warcraft 3 players may find handy when hosting a custom game on BNET to reduce lag, especially if you don’t have a top of the line gaming PC, although WC3 is old enough that it should be run-able on most systems.

  1. Disabling your firewall and/or antivirus can sometimes help, as it may be blocking the ports needed for hosting games. Or make sure that you add Warcraft 3 as an exception in the pre-definable rules.
  2. Close out of other tasks/processes, especially background ones. You can open your task manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete. and left clicking the ones you want to disable and selecting end process.
Yes this means disabling that show you’re downloading via torrent.

Why I can’t switch from Firefox to Google Chrome

Sure there are lots of pros when it comes to Google Chrome, speed is one, and yes its lightweight simplicity is great. I especially like how it uses different processes for tabs, which I think makes it less likely to crash as opposed to the tons of tabs that I open in Firefox that are smashed together under one process.

Add-ons!
However one thing that’s significantly missing that distinguishes Firefox from other browsers such as Internet Explorer and Opera is it’s add-ons and themes. Though yes Opera has themes, it does not have the same extendability as Firefox.

And while Google Chrome is still in it’s beta stages, I seriously tried switching for a week until I finally missed my add-ons. So until then google shall not monopolize my intarweb stuffz. Unless of course they come out with a modding community.
